DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Western New Yorkers are sharing their shock and grief over the unexpected death of a decorated veteran on an amusement park ride.

More than 1,000 facebook users have joined a page dedicated to the late, Sergeant James Hackemer.

He fell off the ride of steel at Darien Lake on Friday.

Sgt. Hackemer endured a long recovery after he lost his legs during an IED blast in Iraq in 2008.
