TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A woman who confessed to scamming hundreds of dollars from people needing snow removal is set to be sentenced Friday.
Customers of Terry Lyn Jarvis were upset she failed to deliver on their snow plowing contracts. Plowing customers were not the only ones Jarvis was scamming, she was also stealing welfare benefits.
Judge William Boller had stern words for Terry Lyn Jarvis the first time she entered his courtroom for sentencing. Boller had said, “People in our community work hard, they pay high taxes and then to be ripped off. You know it’s alright if you have a problem with one of two customers, but on this massive scale? It’s an outrage.”
In July, Boller sentenced Jarvis to five years probation and ordered her to refund $21,000 to customers for her fake snow plow company left out in the cold.
Scam victim Dr. Michael Rosenberg said, “Saw that it wasn’t plowed, so I contacted them and all I got was an answering machine. “
Town of Tonawanda Police Lieutenant Nicholas Bado said, “Complained to us that they had signed a contract with Jarvis for snowplowing and when it snowed, Terry Jarvis never showed up.”
In June Jarvis pleaded guilty to receiving welfare benefits while raking in money from the fraudulent plow company. She also never reported her plowing income. Because of that, she is now back in Judge Boller’s courtroom.
Jarvis faces a maximum of two-and-a-half years to seven years in prison when she is sentenced Friday.
