ALBANY, NY (WIVB) - Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that New York State will benefit from the filming of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. It will be the largest movie production to be filmed in New York, resulting in 3,500 jobs and the casting of 11,000 extras.
The production will be filmed in several locations including Rochester, where a production crew will be scouting locations for a car chase scene this Friday.
Although most of the production work will be in Long Island and Brooklyn, the Rochester scenes will require 3,000 hotel room nights.
Cuomo touts New York’s film tax credit for covering 30 percent of production and post-production costs for movies made in the state. The governor's press release on the project says that since the film tax credit program started in 2004, it has leveraged an estimated $12.1 billion worth of direct spending and has been a huge job generator for New York.
Although other locations across the state will be used for the film, there is no word on whether any of it will be shot in Buffalo or Niagara Falls.
