LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - Temperatures reached into the 90s on Friday and could potentially reach the mid-90s on Saturday.
WNY wrapped up July as the third hottest on record and it looks like August is following suit. With the weekend filled with festivals and events the heat will likely play a role in attendance.
Rose Burta came in from Hamburg and was staying cool by sitting in the shade. But Saturday she will not be going far from her home.
"Staying in the swimming pool then in the air conditioning. So stay close to home. That's the best thing to do," Burta said. "I mean, we have a nice light breeze, which is helping. That sun beating down on you just sucks the energy right out of you."
Vendors were staying cool with fans and were trying to stay out of the sun. Snow cones and lemonade were very popular. So popular that some weren't even eating them to stay cool.
"Yesterday I was here it was a lot cooler. On a hotter day the snow cone trailer does better and obviously a lot of people want them so it is kind of nice," said Austin Herman of Boy Scout troop 40 from Wrights Corner.
Herman said that they see roughly 100 to 150 people per hour.
One little girl was staying cool by getting a breeze from the rides and she said that you just can't think about the heat.
So what's her favorite?
"Tilt-A-Whirl. Because it's fast and you swirl!" grinned Amaria Tennyson.
