BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - 600 Western New Yorkers "stepped out" on a walk to stop diabetes. Under sunny skies on a crisp and beautiful Autumn day in Buffalo, the route took them through some of the most scenic views of the Inner Harbor.
News 4's Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg addressed the walkers before they set out and told News 4's meteorologist Don Paul that he had an excellent forecast for the nice weather they were lucky to have.
So far, the American Diabetes Association in Western New York has raised 80% of its goal of 100-thousand dollars.
The money goes for Diabetes research, awareness, and services to communities.
26 million American children and adults suffer from Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational Diabetes. It is a major cause of heart disease and stroke.
Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States
