BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A horrifying crime leaves a young Buffalo boy dead, and his step father charged with murder. Thursday, the tragic tale of Adbi Mohamud will be told to a judge.

An Erie County prosecutor says his step father, 40-year-old Ali Mohamad Mohamud, allegedly confessed that he tied up his step son, duct taped a sock in the child’s mouth and beat him with a stick.

  >>  This case left many people wondering if his murder could have been stopped. Could something have been done before he was killed?

Neighbor Anthony Saysay said, “I couldn't believe it, except when I came outside and saw the cops and kind of realized something happened bad.”

The family came to the United States as refugees from Somalia.

Executive Director of Vive Inc. Angela Jordan said, “I think for us as Americans this is not just a Somalian situation, unfortunately the tragedy happened with someone that is from that country but this is something that happens every single day in this country.”

Saysay said, “It’s very hard to understand why a father can decide to kill one of his children.”
