Veterans Day events in WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Western New York is celebrating Veteran's Day loud and proud on Sunday, November 11th with many different ceremonies and events held throughout Western New York for all to attend.

Forest lawn Cemetery:
Veteran's Day Commemorative Ceremony & Service beginning at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will open with placing American flags on the graves of veterans interred in Forest Lawn's Field of Valor and in the Erie County American Legion Veterans Section.

The service starts 9a.m. including an invocation, recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, placing of wreaths. gun salute, blowing of Taps and more.

Lakeside Cemetery:
The ceremony will begin at 9:30a.m. and will include an invocation, singing of the National Anthem, placement of wreath, salute to the Armed Forces and more.

Refreshments will also be served.

Naval Park, 5k Run:
Senator Mark Grisanti, member of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee will be co-sponsoring a 5K run at 10:00a.m. in Naval Park.

VA Western New York Healthcare System:
The ceremony is held by the flag pole outside Building 3 on the ground of the Batavia site at 222 Richmond Avenue.

An observance as well as a rifle salute will proceed a coffee social in Building 4 recreation hall.

Milton Brounchidle American Legion Post #205 & Harry E. Crosby VFW Post 2472:
The event starts at 11 a.m. on the Village Green of the Municipal Building in Kenmore. The ceremony includes a wreath laying, taps, firing squad and distinguished veterans.

West Seneca Veterans Committee:
The 40th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony is at the Walkway of Freedom in the West Seneca Veterans Memorial Park starting at 11 a.m.

The guest speaker will be Captain Gina Pizziconi-Cupples, USAFR - Commander, 914 Logistics Readiness Squadron.

There will be songs by Ms. Jodi Mucciaccio and an unveiling of a bronze plaque honoring the sacrifices of the Gold Star Mothers.

Light refreshments will follow at American Legion Post 735, across the street at 35 Legion Parkway.

Niagara Casino Ceremony:
The event starts at 11 a.m. and will be held in the Seneca Niagara Office Building (across from the Casino).

It will include a ceremonial flag rising, a 21-gun salute, and a tolling of bells for fallen soldiers as well as placement of wreaths.

Barry E. Snyder, Sr., the newly elected Seneca Nation President, will speak during the Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel.

"All Veterans Monument" in Cheektowaga Town Park:
The Cheektowaga Veterans Affairs Committee is sponsoring the ceremony that will take place at the west end of the parking lot bordering the Town Park road, nearest the Recreation Center.

The event starts at 1 p.m. Participants will line up at 12:30 p.m. and move out at 12:50 p.m. to the Monument.

A small reception will immediately follow at the Cheektowaga Ice Rink.

The guest speaker is Lt. Colonel Beranda Serena.
