Repairs are progressing on the broken water main on the SUNY Fredonia campus but some students are being told they can’t yet drink the water.
Toilets and showers are now available for use in the Andrews Complex. However, the Chautauqua County Health Department is advising students in those dorms not to ingest the tap water. Students are told they should use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth and washing dishes.
Hemingway, Hendrix, Igoe and Schulz residence halls are affected.
Problems developed Sunday when a water main broke 14 feet below ground.
The Dunkirk Observer reports drinking fountains have been bagged and signs have been posted throughout all four residence halls with this information.
New water samples were taken on Wednesday but the notice will continue until at least Thursday afternoon, January 31.
