BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Over 1,300 people gathered at Alumni Arena at the University at Buffalo in Amherst Sunday morning for The Linda Yalem Safety Run.
The run to help spread the message to use caution when you run outside is named for a woman whose body was found along a bike path in Amherst 22 years ago this weekend.
Participants learned how to keep themselves safe while getting the exercise they need.
Race director Phyllis Floro says, "Making sure that you're wearing bright clothing, make sure that you're running with a friend, and we give out a whole list of safety awareness items that we want people to be reminded about, so that's the purpose of the race today."
In 2007, Altemio Sanchez pleaded guilty to murder in Yalem's death.
