BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A three-year-old boy has died from injuries he sustained last week, during an early-morning blaze on Timon Street in Buffalo. The boy’s mother also died after being injured in the fire.
On Friday, Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield explained the firefighters efforts during the raging fire, "They were able to push in and find the mother and a three-year-old in the back bedroom and extricate them."
Whitfield says 23-year-old Lequisha Watkins and her son, Malachi Watkins, suffered burns and smoke inhalation. Watkins later died from her injuries. Malachi Watkins died over the weekend.
The woman's fiance and another child were able to escape the flames.
News 4 has learned the family of the child has decided to donate the boy's organs. Up to five other children will be saved thanks to their decision.
