AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - A spokesperson from Trader Joe's has confirmed to News 4 that they will be opening a store in western New York.
Officials from the California-based grocery chain say they are planning to open at least one location in western New York, in Amherst. The 12,000-square foot store will be located in the Boulevard Consumer Square at 1565 Niagara Falls Boulevard, current home of Target, Lowe's and more.
The specialty store opened a location in Rochester in October 2012 and has hinted about opening a store closer to Buffalo, but until now did not confirm their plans. A spokesperson tells News 4 the lease has been signed and the store will open later this year.
Trader Joe's operates over 350 stores in 30 states and Washington, D.C., with most locations in California. The chain is known for its cedar covered walls and Hawaiian motifs, with each employee dressed in brightly-colored Hawaiian-themed shirts.
