Troopers remind motorists to Move Over

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's been one year since the expanded "Move Over Law" went into effect across New York State.

Troopers gathered Friday to remind drivers to safely change lanes anytime you approach a vehicle with flashing lights. This includes emergency vehicles and tow trucks.

Just last week, a tow truck driver was hurt along the thruway in Cheektowaga.

Bob Nemeth of Rusiniak's Towing said, "While he was proceeding to do this, another car hit him, hit the vehicle he was recovering. Luckily his injuries were minor but one inch either way could have been detrimental to his health and welfare."

Drivers who violate the Move Over Law could be fined and sentenced to up to 15 days in jail.
