BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The University at Buffalo is celebrating one of its Founding Fathers. Monday would be Millard Fillmore's 213th birthday, and to mark the occasion, UB helped host a ceremony at the former president's grave site.
A wreath from the White House was placed at the grave sit, to honor the former leader for his services to the nation and western New York.
UB Provost Charles Zukoski said, "While he was in Buffalo, he helped to create the Buffalo Fire Department, our public school system, Buffalo General Hospital. He was the Trustee of the Grovner Library, which later became part of the Buffalo and Erie County Library System."
The Forest Lawn Group and the Buffalo Club also helped organize the event. Fillmore was UB's first chancellor and the 13th President of the United States.
