NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - The U.S Border Patrol demonstrated how to treat victims suffering from hypothermia Friday morning.
Agent Tim Gibbson from the U.S Border Patrol station in Niagara Falls said you can get hypothermia within minutes with wet clothes on in cold temperatures.
He also said the most important way to treat hypothermia is to use a self heating blanket that acts similar to that of a warm hand. Symptoms of hypothermia include shivering, slurred speech, confusion, and drowsiness.
If it’s not treated right away, hypothermia can cause brain damage or even death.
