DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) - Tuesday morning it's still unclear whether a driver will be charged for the bus stop death of a Depew teenager.

One thing is clear, 18-year-old Ashley Creighton was deeply loved by those around her, proven by a vigil held in her memory Monday night.

Teacher Cheryl Haurik said, “Depew is a big family, we try to look out for one another, and Depew School was Ashley's family.”

Hundreds of people who loved and knew Ashley remembered her Monday night, right in the area where she was struck by an SUV on Broadway Avenue in Depew , Monday morning.

Ashley has been waiting for a bus to take her to a doctor appointment.

Ashley’s friend Alexis Harman said, “She was funny, she was goofy, she was amazing. She was like an amazing best friend.”

Police believe the 35-year-old man, in the included video, may have fallen asleep at the wheel after working an overnight shift.

The vehicle continued on after hitting Ashley and went right into Penora’s Pizzeria, a little further down Broadway. The damage to the pizzeria was extensive, but no one there was injured.

A partner with the pizzeria says the real tragedy is for the families involved, who lost Ashley far too soon.

Ashley’s co worker Joanna Koeth said, “She was hilarious, she always brought a smile to everyone's face. She was a really good worker.”
