CLARENCE CENTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Tuesday marks four years since the deadly crash of Flight 3407 in Clarence Center. Fifty lives were lost, all 49 people on board the Continental flight from Newark, and one man who died in his Long Street home when the plane literally fell straight out of the sky.

The crash was attributed to pilot error, just five miles away from landing at the airport, the plane pitched and jerked for 25 seconds before falling belly down on the ground.

In 2010 the NTSB concluded the young pilots did exactly the opposite of what they were supposed to do in that situation. Since then, families of the victims have been fighting for tougher regulations for pilots.

Those rules were signed into law by President Obama, but still aren’t being implemented by the FAA.

Late Monday some family members went to Washington D.C. as they continue their fight for flight safety. They have a long day ahead of them, filled with meetings.

In Western New York Tuesday, there will be a vigil on Long Street, at the site of the crash. That begins at 10 p.m. which was right around the time when the crash happened four years ago.
