LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - The SPCA of Niagara says the waiting list to adopt the dogs rescued from a Lockport home is already over 100 people, for the 64 dogs. The dogs were part of an alleged puppy mill, owned by Elly Magrum called "Rachel's Royal Poms."
She is charged with town ordinance harboring the animals without a kennel license. She could face more serious animal cruelty charges.
The dogs, about 20 of them puppies, will cost between $175 and $450. They are being evaluated Tuesday and will go home with new owners Wednesday.
The dogs need a lot of dental work, and four of them have loose kneecaps. Five or six of the dogs are pregnant.
The alleged puppy mill was charged $450- $900 for the dogs, and had been in business for 16 years.
The SPCA can still use newspapers, puppy pads and puppy chow to be dropped off at their location 2100 Lockport Road.
