Wallenda greets fans in Canada

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. (WIVB) - Last night in front of an international TV audience, 33-year-old daredevil Nik Wallenda got on a tightrope 200-feet over Niagara Falls, and successfully walked it from the US to Canada.

The suspense may be over, but the excitement of the walk is still there, not only for Wallenda, but for those who watched him in person.

"I loved it," said Tom Corbett of Buffalo. "We've been following Nik for the past month.  We've been at every practice session, we got front row seats on the Canadian side. We just love him it was a fantastic experience for us.

Saturday, some fans had the chance to see the daredevil in person.

At a meet and greet, at Edgewater's Restaurant in Niagara Falls, Ont., several of Wallenda's biggest fans were able to get autographs and take pictures with the man of the hour

"It's almost like a dream," said Niagara Falls resident Ken Sporar. "It was so inspiring last night and we were headed out to the lake on Niagara, heard he was here, turned around and came back got his autograph. It was awesome."

Some fans were able to ask Wallenda a few questions, like what he did to celebrate after the walk.

"I slept all night for the first time in three months," Wallenda answered. "It was a late night we actually got back to the hotel and I had dinner with my close friends who were here and family and that finished around 2:30 in the morning."

However he won't be resting for long, Wallenda's family took off right away, headed back to Branson, Missouri where they are performing for the summer. Wallenda is also looking forward to start working on his next feat, walking across the Grand Canyon.

As for the rope he used to walk across the Falls, Wallenda has plans for it.

"There's talks of some of that wire going to the Smithsonian," Wallenda said. "There's all sorts of talks right now of what's going to happen with it."

Wallenda also said that there's a chance some of the wire could be made into commemorative plaques.

As for his legacy in Niagara Falls, Wallenda spoke about the possibility of starting a theater show with his family in the area called "Beyond the Fall: featuring Nik Wallenda" and performing during the summer months.
