CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Daredevil Nik Wallenda believes his plan to cross Niagara Falls on a tightrope could still become a reality.
Months after the Niagara Parks Commission said no to his proposal, Wallenda is being called back to Canada, once again, to persuade the commission to give him the all clear.
News 4 met exclusively with Wallenda after he landed in Buffalo early Tuesday.
"Every time they say no, I hear yes. I never give up, that's something that's been taught and handed from generation to generation is to never give up," Wallenda said.
The Wednesday meeting will be open to the public. Wallenda said there have been closed meetings with he and the commissioners, leading up to this.
"We've had a meeting behind closed doors about a week ago where we were able to discuss stuff in deep detail with the staff of the NPC," he noted.
News 4 asked, if he thought commissioners would vote yes or vote no. Wallenda responded, "I'm a positive person so I think they're going to vote yes."
Back in November, the tightrope walker made a presentation to the parks commission, where Interim Chairwoman Janice Thomson, among many others, opposed hiss plan.
Thomson told reporters, "It's not something that for us is consistent with what we're supposed to be doing, which is presenting a natural wonder and that's what you're supposed to be awe struck by..."
Since that meeting, Wallenda has faced a barrage of obstacles -- some from New York State. Lawmakers support the international plan, but do not support the plan to only walk the American falls. State politicians says those plans would be too much of a financial burden.
But Wallenda will continue his fight.
"Even if I were to get a no [Wednesday] I'll still be back in the area and do more campaigning. It's almost like running a campaign at this point," he said.
Wallenda says he's picked up support from some major figures in Canada. He says the meeting will end with an open vote. He's expecting a positive outcome.
There was no word from the Niagara Parks Commission, late Tuesday.
