ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Two Webster firefighters who were shot at during the Christmas Eve tragedy have been released from the hospital.

After the terrible tragedy struck on December 24th, 2012 in Webster, N.Y., two firefighters were killed, Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka, and two were sent to the hospital, Joseph Hofsetter and Theodore Scardino.

Hofsetter and Scardino were released from Strong Memorial Hospital around noon Saturday.

Support for the firefighters' bravery continues to build; more than 26,000 people have signed the online petition to award the Medal of Freedom to the firefighters.

The amount it is up to now is more than the required number of signatures needed for the White House to review the petition.

The Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award given in the United States.

For more information, check out the White House website.
