BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The nasty winds caused damage and power outages overnight in western New York. The wind was strong enough to bring down tree limbs and knock out power.
After their big win, the Buffalo Bills were greeted back the Queen City with a bumpy ride. WGR 550 talked with Chan Gailey Monday morning. They asked him about a “scary landing” that Donald Jones had tweeted about. Gailey said, “The way it was moving, they did a good job getting it on the ground.”
JFK High School, in Cheektowaga, lost power but school is still in session. JFK High School Principal Kevin Kazmierczak said, “Our students are in the classrooms, they're safe. Everybody had breakfast available for them, we have a cold lunch available for them.”
JFK is hoping their regular power will be up and running by 12:30 p.m. Monday. They say their transformer blew from the strong winds.
It was a long and windy night, into Monday. The heavy winds pulled the electrical connection away from the NYE Park Hotel on Elmwood Avenue. Residents were forced outside int he middle of the night.
Nye Park Hotel Resident Robert Reed said, “I was watching TV, next thing I know, I see my lights flickering in my bedroom.”
Reed said, “Next thing I know, I go outside my door and all of a sudden I see a whole bunch of sparks outside and everything else.”
