BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Natural gas bills might not burn a big hole in wallets this winter.
National Fuel is predicting only a moderate increase in home heating bills this year. The utility says the average bill will go up around $8.40. The company says although last winter's record warmth is causing a slight price increase, heating costs remain at their lowest levels in more than a decade.
National Fuel says there is help out there for customers who have a hard time paying their heating bills.
"The Home Energy Assistance Program opens on November 19th. The maximum natural gas grant is $450. You can apply for heap in person, over the phone, filling out an application," said spokesman Karen Merkel.
National Fuel says hydro-fracking is also a major factor in lower natural gas prices.
