BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - We can call this "the winter that wasn't". So far this year we have only seen 21 days with 1 inch of snow on the ground. The record low for the winter is 29. Monday, you pretty much had to find a shady spot to find snow that wasn’t a plow bank.
Snowmobilers and Skiers aren't happy but many Western New Yorkers are taking advantage.
“I have enjoyed this winter because I have been able to do archery a lot outside. Just been able to ride my bike and run around. ” Said Joshua Torres of East Aurora.
The Time Warner Cable Classic Rink has seen record attendance this year and with many kids off from school this week they expect a large crowd.
“It can get pretty cold out here sometimes this time of year but the warm weather has been very cooperative with us and it remains busy every weekend for the public skates.” Said rink manager Dave Limbrock
Car washes like Delta Sonic love days like today. They said they will be at full capacity washing about 250 cars per hour where typically they do about 1000 cars in a day.
Casey Creenan took the time to build an ice rink in his own back yard but hasn’t been able to use it much.
“It literally froze for just good skating one day, bad skating one day and then it melted again. This past week you got a cold blast but I was out of town. My wife said your ice is frozen you can skate. I got home… it is a puddle again.” Said Casey
Joseph Creenan has said he would rather it be colder but more then that he just wants Mother Nature to decide on winter or spring.
“Id rather it is consistently cold or consistently warm. If its going to be warm have it be warm everyday. Instead of it being warm one day, cold two days, and warm one day. I don’t like the inconsistency.” Said Joseph
And that is how it has been. Even when we have seen cold temperatures or a good snow it has warmed up a day or two later and rain melts much of it away. Which pretty much what we can expect over the next few days.
