BRANT, N.Y. (WIVB) - One man was killed and another in serious condition after an early morning crash on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.
Erie County Sheriff's deputies responded to the accident on Erie Road just after 8 a.m. on Monday in the Town of Brant. Officials say Donald Murray, 76, of Angola crossed over the eastbound lane in front of Steven Forthman, 43, of Silver Creek. Deputies say Forthman could not avoid hitting Murray's vehicle.
"At this point everything appears to be weather-related. When the call came over there was about four inches of slush on the road we had a freezing rain situation but at this point it's appearing to be weather related," said Erie County Sheriff's Capt. Ron Kenyon.
Murray was pronounced dead at the scene. Forthman was taken to Lakeshore Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The accident is believed to be weather-related and remains under investigation.
