AMHERST, NY (WIVB) - According to Rochester media outlets, the National Institute of Health is offering to step in and do testing in the case of the mysterious Tourette-like symptoms that has been affecting a group of female students in LeRoy.
The Democrat and Chronicle reports that another student is now displaying symptoms. That patient was seen over the weekend by Dr. Laszlo Mechtler of the Dent Neurological Institute.
The NIH has asked Dr. Mechtler and Dent to do additional high-end testing on the girls. The tests reportedly include functional MRI, DTI and MRS which will be done at no cost. However, of the ten original patients, only half that number have agreed to come back.
The parents are now consulting with a new private doctor from Rockland County who is a specialist in an autoimmune disease, PANDAS, related to strep throat infections.
