FORT ERIE, ONT. (WIVB) - The slot machines at the Fort Erie Racetrack will stop jingling for good on April 30.
The Town of Fort Erie reports that approximately 220 gaming jobs will be affected and 100 Fort Erie Race Track jobs will also be affected.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission today temporarily shut the slot operations for the day and told workers the news.
The Ontario gaming commission earlier announced it would be consolidating operations and scrapping teh slots at racetracks program. Slot machines will be pulled from tracks in Windsor and Sarnia as well.
The Town of Fort Erie is reeling from this news since the Fort Erie Racetrack is a prime employer, more than 2,000 workers are on the track's payroll.
We are expecting further news by the end of the week that Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ontario will likely close as the Province shutters its underperforming gaming operations.
