NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. (WIVB) - The operators of the Maid of the Mist Steamboat Co. are threatening to pull out operations immediately.

The Niagara Parks Commission announced Wednesday that it is awarding the boat tour contract to Hornblower, a San Francisco-based company, ending the long running contract given to the Glynn family who have run the tours since 1846.

The Niagara Falls Review reports that Glynn family is assessing its position including "whether or not there will be a boat tour service offered in Niagara Falls".

Hornblower Canada is under contract to start operating boat tours in the spring of 2014 under the new 30-year lease.

The Hornblower company said they would consider launching its service earlier if Maid of the Mist pulls out.
