Killeen Police tells News 4 Sampson was shot along with two other men in a parking lot outside a convenience store. Investigators do not know the motive behind the shooting. The other two men shot remain in critical condition.

Killeen Police Public Affairs Officer Carroll Smith said, "Right now, the motive is not being said. They're still investigating it and like I said, we have put out feelers to everybody, seeing if anyone can tell us who this might have been."

Fort Hood officials say Sampson entered active duty in 2006 as a cavalry scout after graduating from Letchworth Central. He has been at Fort Hood since November 2006. Sampson served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 2007 to January 2009 and in Operation New Dawn from August 2010 to August 2011.

Sampson was decorated with the Army Commendation Medal, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
