BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Who says you can't have fun during a Buffalo winter? Thousands of people came to Delaware Park on Saturday for the Second Annual Flurrious Winter Festival.

The idea is to have a free fun filled snowy day dedicated to spending time with family and friends outside.

Dewitt Lee said, "I think it's organized, I think it's great. I think people's spirits are really high. It's hard to find happy people during the cold and outdoors. I don't know where all these happy people came from but I'm glad they're here."

"We want to share with the world the fact that Buffalo, New York knows how to creatively take advantage of all the opportunities we have with our weather and also the fact that we have family filled activities that we can participate in year round," added Otis Glover of the Buffalo Olmstead Parks.

>>>But it wasn't always this cold and snowy, in fact it wasn't cold enough for the Pond Hockey Tournament this year!

And there is definitely plenty to do. The day started with 300 people taking part in a fun-run and throughout the day there was snow tennis, cross country skiing, pond hockey, sledding, kick ball, music, food and drinks and a whole lot more.

Besides all the family events here at Flurrious, the other big draw is this Quidditch tournament. Which I know absolutely nothing about, but looks like a lot of fun.

Luckily some players took the time to explain to me it's kind of a mixture of hockey and rugby and yes, those are brooms between their legs just like the characters in the Harry Potter books. And it drew quite a crowd, including students from all over Western New York, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, and parts of Canada.

If you missed out, planning for next year's event will start on Monday with hopes to grow even more, hopefully double of what it already is.
