BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - They put pen to paper, but never thought they would become known across America.

Now, on the eve of the historic inauguration, News 4 caught up with some western New Yorkers who wrote letters to Michelle Obama.

A magazine cover for the New Yorker magazine is what started it all; a satirical image of Barack and Michelle Obama that was not funny, according to the women.

They decided to write to Michelle Obama, to give her a message of encouragement and that message quickly became messages, from all over the world.

Peggy Brooks-Bertram (author, "Go, Tell Michelle") said, "We've actually uncovered a vast network of African American women that was just bubbling beneath the surface."

News 4 spoke with Peggy Brooks-Bertram and Barbara Seals Nevergold a few weeks ago and since then, their book has not only sold out, but letters keep pouring in, inspiring them to write another book.

News 4 caught up with them after they were inverviewed on CNN.

Barbara Seals Nevergold (author, "Go, Tell Michelle") said, "It has given the ordinary woman the opportunity to share her, hopes dreams, fears, advice and remembrances with Michelle Obama."

They believe that the country will be proud of the new first lady.

Nevergold said, "She'll address some very complex issues, issues in mental health, health care overall, care for children, care for the elderly, military families."

They're hoping to get a copy of the book to Michelle Obama within the next few weeks.
