FLORIDA (WIVB) - A Florida man is suing Home Depot, for religious discrimination.

He was recently fired from the home improvement giant for wearing a button.

Trevor Keezer has found himself in the middle of a debate over religious freedom.

"I don't think he set out to be a martyr, he found himself in a position that clearly hurt him financially," said Attorney Kara Skorupa.

For 19 months Keezor was an award-winning employee at Home Depot, only to be fired for wearing a pin that read, "One nation under God, Indivisible."

He actually wore it for a year to show support for his brother, an army specialist heading off the Iraq, and to express his Christian faith.

Then last month, at about the same time he brought a bible to work, he was fired.

Trevor's attorney, Kara Skorupa doesn't believe the button was the problem.

"It's not as easy to say we don't like the fact you have a bible with you," said Skorupa.

Home Depot does issue patriotic buttons to it's employees, which Keezer refused to wear on his apron.

The company defends it decision to fire him.

This story is getting national attention and some negative reaction from Home Depot customers.

Keezer says he never asked anyone to boycott Home Depot, he's just defending what he believes is right.

He says after he was fired, he knew God would provide for him, so far he's received seven job offers.
