WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB) - Legislation to extend unemployment benefits has cleared a hurdle in the Senate.
Senate democrats called on their colleagues to move quickly to a final vote.
The legislation would provide 14 weeks in extra financial aid for everyone exhausting their benefits by the end of the year.
People living in the 27 states where the unemployment rate is at least 8.5% would get another six weeks on top of that.
