BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It happened in the middle of the afternoon, not far from a community center.
And Monday night, police believe a woman pulled the trigger in a double shooting that's left two people in critical condition, and a quiet neighborhood on edge.
It looks like a typical afternoon at the Northwest Community Center, except for the fact that the building is in lock down.
A shooting just a few hundred feet away forced center leaders to play it safe with around two dozen senior citizens who were there at the time.
Northwest Community Center Director Deborah Cielenski said, "They were fine being here knowing it was locked down, knowing there was police in the area."
Jose Davila is cleaning up the street in front of his Saint Lawrence Avenue home. He didn't know what happened until late Monday afternoon.
Davila said, "You come home and your street's taped off and they won't allow you to enter your home because of a circumstance such as this. It's quite disturbing."
Authorities say that two people were found shot inside a Chevrolet Impala. The car crashed into a tree in front of Davila's house.
Buffalo Police say the male driver is in his twenties and was shot in the upper body area.
The passenger in the car was a woman, who was also shot.
Investigators moved quickly to track down the shooter Monday afternoon.
A house was blocked off with crime scene tape, but police are not saying whether or not the shooter lives there.
Neighbors are on edge in the North Buffalo community.
St. Lawrence Avenue resident Eric Golba said, "This whole general area is all homeowners, except those two."
Witnesses say the Chevy Impala is a familiar vehicle on St. Lawrence Avenue.
"This car that was just in the accident with the young people in it has been coming up and down the street quite a bit. It's very well known to see."
