Corwin dodges reporters' questions

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) - The video confrontation with Independent Jack Davis is coming back to haunt the Jane Corwin campaign. The GOP candidate left unanswered questions behind Tuesday after a forum in Batavia.

Republican Jane Corwin would not stop for reporters' questions following a meet the candidates session in Batavia. She is still being plagued by the camera ambush of Jack Davis by her own Chief of Staff, Michael Mallia, and the presence of a second camera by a Republican operative.

Howard Owens of The Batavian asked, "Where is the second tape on that Jack Davis ambush? How come that tape hasn't been released?"

Corwin responded, "I think we've had plenty of conversation on that issue and at this point, we've got a week left in the campaign, we are going to focus on the issues."

As Owens pressed the issue, Corwin pushed pass reporters while laughing off the incident. Erie County Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy said some reporters were engaging in tactics similar to the camera incident with Davis. But Davis' campaign manager used the opportunity to take a verbal swipe at Corwin.

Davis' campaign manager Curtis Ellis said, "Jane Corwin has proven herself to be unqualified to serve in Congress. She can't tell the truth. She can't tell her own staff what to do, and she keeps changing her story."

Democrat Kathy Hochul, who may stand to gain from this three-way race, is being targeted in a new Corwin TV ad.

The ad states, "The truth is it's Hochul who says she would cut Medicare and Social Security."

Hochul has the endorsement of National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. She called the ad "laughable."

Hochul said, "Absolute desperation, last minute tactics, and it's going nowhere. I've been on this issue since day one. The voters know me, and they're not going to buy these last ditch efforts."

The Corwin TV ad also accuses Hochul of launching a false campaign against Corwin's position on Medicare.
