Cuomo recuses self, mum on run for Gov.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WIVB) - We're following developing news involving New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Andrew Cuomo is now cutting ties with a domestic violence probe involving Governor David Paterson and State Police. The State Attorney General has now officially removed himself from the investigation involving Governor Paterson.

He has instead appointed an independent counsel to take over. That is former Judge Judith Kaye.

Andrew Cuomo says his preliminary review finds there are credible issues to determine in the investigation. As you may know, the Governor is under investigation for his suspected role in a domestic violence case involving an assistant and accepting free World Series tickets and then lying about it.

Both Republicans and Democrats have been calling on Cuomo to remove himself from the investigation mainly because he is expected to run for Governor. Here is his response to why he's appointed an independent counsel.

"The suggestion of politics raises the issue of politics and I wanna make sure this is an investigation that is as free as from political interference as is possible. Now, politics is fierce in New York and people come up with theories, yes," said Cuomo.

But when asked about his plans to run for Governor, the Attorney General would not specifically answer that question. The only thing he would say is that he will announce plans for his political future at the appropriate time.
