BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Big Apple lawyer is looking to oust New York's Junior US Senator and become the first republican in that seat in a decade.

News 4 sat down Monday with Bruce Blakeman.

Blakeman says he shares the anger and frustration of the hardworking families of New York. That is why Bruce Blakeman says he's running for a senate seat in this state.

Blakeman is a lawyer who served in the Nassau County Legislature from 1996 to 1999. The 54 year old says, unlike himself, his opponent Kirsten Gillibrand has not listened to the people of this state and gotten a real sense of what the issues are when it comes to health care and job creation. Two issues that Blakeman says require less spending and less government.

Blakeman said, "Job number one is to create jobs. Job number two is to control spending , get realistic budgets, get business off peoples backs. Government should not put their hand in people's pockets anymore, this is one of the most over-regulated and overtaxed states in the country and that's why we haven't been creating jobs."

Blakeman also says that unlike his opponent, he is running his race for the senate from the bottom. In fact, he announced that he was running just 60 days ago, at an American Legion Hall in his home town of Valley Stream Long Island, surrounded by veterans and members of the Tea Party Movement.
