BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Carl Paladino is a step closer to getting a new line on the ballot in his run for governor of New York.
The Buffalo businessman handed in a petition with 28,000 signatures on Tuesday, that's nearly double the number required by the board of elections to get a line on the ballot. The new party is called the "Taxpayers Party" and Paladino thinks it's on it's way to becoming the state's main third political party.
"We are still receiving petitions at a rate in excess of a thousand per day from all around the state, and we will follow those petitions on or before the last day," said Paladino.
Independent parties can be formed if you have 15,000 signatures from registered voters of any political party with at least 100 of them coming from at least half of the state's congressional districts.
