WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB) - The House Ethics Committee has recommended censure for veteran Congressman Charles Rangel.
Censure is the most serious Congressional discipline short of expulsion. It comes after the House Ethics Committee found Rangel guilty fundraising misconduct and failure to pay taxes. A chastened Rangel spoke before the committee on Thursday.
"I hope you see your way clear that this member that's honored to serve with all of you was not corrupt. And that's no excuse for my behavior. It was no intent for me ever to go beyond what has been given to me as a salary. I never intended to enrich myself," said Rangel.
