ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) - A bill named after an Amherst teenager, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident, is moving forward.
The State Senate Transportation Committee passed "Alix's Law" on Tuesday. The bill honors 18-year-old Alix Rice, who was killed while riding her longboard on Heim Road on a summer night in 2011. Dr. James Corasanti faced a number of charges in this case.
He was eventually convicted on one count: misdemeanor DWI, which caused a community uproar. Alix's Law would close a loophole that allows drivers to leave the scene and claim they did not know they hurt anyone.
