ALBANY, NY (AP) - Parks and trail advocacy groups say big strides are being made in the ongoing effort to close the remaining gaps in the Erie Canalway Trail that extends from Albany to Buffalo.
Parks and Trails New York and the Canalway Trails Association New York have released a report that says just 84 miles of gaps remain in the 361-mile trail.
The groups say seven miles of trail are under construction and will be completed this year, including six miles in Wayne County and one mile in Little Falls on the Mohawk River.
The eight-mile Amherst-to-Lockport trail outside Buffalo will go out to bid this year, closing one of the six key gaps in the Canalway Trail system.
The groups launched their "Closing the Gaps Campaign" in 2010.
