ALBANY, NY (AP) - A Canadian woman who survived a wrong-way crash on the Thruway is crediting a bouncer at a Hudson Valley sports bar for saving her and her 4-month-old baby from the fiery wreckage.
Mike Curtis of Glenmont was working early Friday morning at a bar near Interstate 87's Exit 21B when a northbound car driven by a local man smashed into a southbound minivan driven by Karen Weller of Hamilton, Ontario.
Albany's WNYT-TV reports that Weller is praising Curtis for running to the crash scene with a fire extinguisher and using it to put out the flames. He then removed Weller and her 4-month-old baby from the wreckage.
Weller's passenger, 50-year-old Carol Dion of Stony Creek, Ontario, was killed in the crash, along with the wrong-way driver.
Weller's baby remains hospitalized in Albany.
