ATTICA (AP) - A 31-year-old man sentenced last month for strangling a mother of four and dumping her body behind a central New York fire station has been found dead in his cell at Attica State Prison.

State corrections officials say Craig Ingersoll was found hanging in his cell Tuesday night. He was serving 25 years to life for killing Jennifer Bennett of Utica during a sexual assault six years ago.

Bennett's body was discovered in January 2007 behind the Deerfield Fire House. Her snow-covered body was found by people sledding nearby.

Ingersoll was charged after investigators matched his DNA to the crime scene in September 2011. He was convicted in November 2012 and sentenced last month.
