ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WIVB) - Billionaire businessman and and former owner of the Buffalo Sabres is turning his attention to get states to move to a popular vote system for electing a president.

Golisano will be spokesman for the National Popular Vote campaign, bankrolling an effort to get states to move to a popular-vote system for electing a president.

A news conference is scheduled to announce Golisano's role in the campaign Tuesday in Washington, D.C., the same day that his sale of the Buffalo Sabres becomes official.

The Democrat and Chronicle reports that his role in the national push would be to meet with legislative leaders and governors across the country. The measure has already passed six states and is being actively considered in dozens of others.

It's expected that Golisano will contribute to the financing of the effort, but he is apparently not revealing how much he will contribute to the campaign.
