ROCHESTER, NY (WIVB) - Sen. Chuck Schumer is working to get new uniforms for the U.S. Olympic Team Opening Ceremonies made in New York State.
Rochester media outlets are reporting that the Senator contacted Rochester-based clothing manufacturer, Hickey Freeman to see if it was possible for them to make new uniforms by the Olympics opening date. Controversy has swirled around the fact that the U.S. athletes will be wearing uniforms designed by Ralph Lauren, but made in China.
Hickey Freeman has offered to make all new uniforms for the team in time for the game. They are already supplying outfits for the broadcast team.
Senator Schumer is hoping to convince the U.S. Olympic Committee to sew up the deal.
Other lawmakers are pushing manufacturers in their home stares. On Thursday, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, suggested the Hugo Boss plant in Cleveland as a good place to make replacement uniforms.
