ALBANY, NY (ap) - Authorities have charged five college students with felonies in connection with a melee that broke out as police attempted to break up a raucous "kegs and eggs" party held the morning of Albany's annual St. Patrick's Day parade.
Albany police say officers responded Saturday morning to a neighborhood where parties at several houses had spilled onto a street, with large groups of college students drinking and destroying property.
Officials say some in the crowd jumped on parked cars and smashed windows, while others tossed beer bottles at officers.
Five students were arrested on charges ranging from riot to assaulting a police officer. Authorities didn't provide the students' hometowns or which college they attend. The Times Union of Albany reports three of the students attend the University at Albany and the others were visiting from out of town.
