TROY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York woman who suffered severe burns when she dashed into a burning building to rescue a baby got a hero's welcome when she returned home after nearly a month in the hospital.

Neighbors cheered and cameras clicked Friday as Shontal Gaymon limped home to her apartment in Troy. She smiled, but still wore bandages on her arms.

The 29-year-old ran into a neighbor's burning apartment on July 8 to grab year-old Nikia Frazier from a crib.

At her homecoming, the Troy police and firefighters's unions presented Gaymon with a gift of six months of free rent in recognition of her bravery.

Gaymon said she was grateful for all the love.

A charity fund has also been set up to help cover her significant medical expenses.
