Buffalo, N.Y. - It was a scary situation for family of six trapped in their Crossman Avenue home as it filled with flames early Sunday morning.  Buffalo firefighters were able to rescue all of the family members out of the home.

Fire officials got a frantic 9-1-1 call from the homeowner around 6:40am.   The occupant said she and her husband and their four children were all trapped in the back bedroom of the home.

Crews arrived to heavy flames and spotted three children trying to jump out a second floor window.  One child had already fallen to the ground below, a second was hanging off the window and a third was standing in the window.  Three people were still unaccounted for.

Firefighters began to knock down the fire and found a man and woman unconscious on the first floor of the home.  They were able to rescue the two adults but still needed to find a four year old child.  Rescuers finally found the child in an upstairs bedroom unconscious.

The two adults were taken to ECMC for treatment.  The 4 year old was taken to Women and Children's Hospital.  Three children ages, 2, 8 and 12 are staying at a neighbor's home.  The condition of all the family members is still unknown.  Several pets did not make it.

The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen but it still remains under investigation.  There was at least one working smoke detector in the home.
