BARKER, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Niagara County girl was inspired to hold a vigil tonight for Newtown, CT victims' families and let them know she was thinking of them.
Abby Wilson, just 10-years-old of Barker was truly saddened by the Connecticut school shooting. After talking with her mother about the incident, Abby decided she wanted to do something for the victims and their families.
Out of the conversation, came about the idea of a vigil. The 10-year-old said she originally only intended it to be for her immediate family, but as she thought more about it, she wanted more people to be a part of the special ceremony.
Abby started passing out flyers to get more people involved, giving them a chance to express their grief.
She simply wanted everyone to know she was thinking about all those little Angels she just couldn't get off her mind. "This way, all the new Angels and families would feel our prayers and love. It is almost Christmas, and Christmas is about giving. I feel we could all give to the Connecticut families who need the world's support now more than ever, " Abby says.
There is expected to be almost 1,000 people attending the vigil.
Amber Gurman, Abby's mother says, "It seems to me that a lot more children are more empathetic and more compassionate than most adults sometimes and I think that's a good thing they're very thoughtful."
Abby and her mom would like everyone to know anyone is welcome to take part in the vigil.
It will be held at 10 p.m. tonight on Main Street and Barker Rd. at the gazebo near Quaker Rd.
