Stove fire forces building evacuation

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (RELEASE) - The Niagara County Sheriff's office received several calls reporting a large amount of black smoke coming from an apartment building on Akron Road Tuesday night around 7 p.m.

On arrival, several Niagara County Sheriff's deputies assisted the residents in evacuating the building. The South Lockport and Terry's Corners Fire Departments responded and extinguished the fire that was contained to apartment 3. The fire originated in the kitchen area near the stove.

There were no injuries reported and there is no damage estimate available at this time.
