LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies say a woman stole over $5,000 from a bowling boosters club and then lied to authorities about a burglary at her home to try and cover for the missing money.
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies arrested 50-year-old Cheryl Wright of Lockport Friday morning and charged her with third degree grand larceny and falsely reporting an incident. Deputies worked with the Lockport Police and found that Wright, who worked as secretary for the Lockport Bowling Boosters Club, stole over $5,000 meant to be used for trophies and award banquets for the Lockport High School Bowling team.
Deputies say the club was reporting the money stolen to Lockport Police at the same time Wright was reporting a burglary at her home of $4,000 in cash. But authorities say there was no burglary, and Wright was lying to try and cover her tracks in the theft of the club's money.
Wright was arraigned and is due back in Lockport Town Court on December 13.
